The growing trend in the use of solar energy has spread to all countries of the European Union.

For the first time, the European Union received more energy from the sun than from burning coal. The Ember analytical center reported this on Thursday, January 23.

Therefore, in 2024, solar energy will provide 11.1% of electricity in the European Union (304 TWh), overtaking coal (269 TWh).

“Solar energy has become the main factor in reducing the use of fossil fuels by 2024. The increasing trend in the use of solar energy has spread to all EU countries,” the center noted.

Solar and wind met 29% of the EU’s electricity needs, gas provided 15.7% and coal 9.8%. Nuclear energy accounted for 23.7% of total electricity production, hydropower – 13.2%. In 2024, the share of renewable resources will reach 47%.

We would like to remind you that earlier the Vice-President of the European Commission, Maros Šefčović, highly praised the development of green energy in Ukraine.

The world’s first offshore wind power plant has been commissioned in China.
