Pepsi’s actions resulted in higher prices, hurting retailers’ ability to compete fairly, the FTC said.
The US Federal Trade Commission has filed a lawsuit against PepsiCo Inc., accusing the world’s second-largest food company of price discrimination. CNBC reported this.
PepsiCo allegedly gave one of its customers (a large retail chain) an unfair price advantage while simultaneously raising prices for competing retailers and customers.
The suit does not name PepsiCo’s intended customer, but CNBC reports it may be Walmart.
“For years, Pepsi harmed retailers that competed with one of its largest customers by denying them the benefits and privileges afforded to those customers,” the FTC said.
According to experts at the US Trade Commission, Pepsi’s unfair practices led to price increases, which limited retailers’ ability to compete fairly.
PepsiCo has denied the allegations against it. The company intends to defend its position in court.
“PepsiCo’s practices follow industry standards and we do not favor certain customers,” it said.
We remind you that, according to media reports, Coca-Cola and Pepsi continue to operate in Russia, despite statements to leave the Russian market.
As reported, the Russian division of the Coca-Cola company has already quadrupled its profits over the past year. The company continues to make a lot of money in the country, hiding under another name – Good Cola.
