Representatives of the European Commission noted positive trends, in particular, Russian gas imports “reduced significantly.”
The European Commission (EC) continues to look for opportunities to abandon Russian energy sources, but gas from the Russian Federation, despite the efforts of the EU, continues to flow, and Brussels wants to end it. This is what EC spokeswoman Anna-Kaisa Itkonen said in a briefing in Brussels on Monday, January 20.
“The Commission will present the road map, aka the plan for the complete disconnection of the European Union from Russian fossil fuels, as expected, within the first 100 days (of its mandate – ed.) We just have to wait a little more,” he said.
He added that the EU has taken significant steps “to phase out Russia’s fossil fuels” and that “Russia’s gas imports have decreased significantly.”
“All imports of Russian coal have been stopped, most of Russia’s oil supplies have been reduced, and two-thirds of Russian gas has also been cut off,” the official said.
According to him, “despite the significant results, Russian gas is still present on the European market, but I wish this would not happen.”
“And this is one of the issues that the solution is given for the Roadmap, which will be presented in the coming weeks,” assured Itkonen.
We remind you that the European Union has decided to completely abandon Russian gas by 2027.
