Donald Trump plans to impose tariffs on imports from Mexico and Canada. This could have a major impact on many North American auto companies.
Toyota Motor of North America announced that it will donate $1 million to the inauguration of US President-elect Donald Trump on January 20. Reuters reported this on Tuesday, December 24.
It is noted that Ford Motor and General Motors have also pledged to provide the same amount. Ford and General Motors will also provide vehicles for the celebration, but Toyota has no plans to do so, the Japanese company said.
Other donors to Trump’s inauguration include Jeff Bezos’ Amazon and Mark Zuckerberg’s Facebook parent company Meta.
As Reuters notes, Trump’s proposed tariffs on imports from Mexico and Canada could affect many North American automakers, in particular Toyota, which makes the Toyota Tacoma pickup truck in Mexico.
The Trump administration is also expected to consider reversing some of Joe Biden’s decisions related to electric vehicles and emissions standards.
It was previously reported that Trump invited Chinese President Xi Jinping to his inauguration in January, but he is unlikely to attend.
At the same time, Trump said that he did not invite Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky to his inauguration, but added that if Zelensky wanted to come, he would be happy to welcome him.
