The exchange rate of the hryvnia against the dollar and the euro fell sharply at the beginning of the new working week. RBC-Ukraine reported this in connection with market monitoring data on Monday, December 23.
The average selling rate of the dollar in Ukraine increased by 20 kopecks to 42.30 Hryvnia, the euro exchange rate increased by 30 kopecks to 44.40 Hryvnia.
Today, exchange offices buy dollars for an average of 41.80 Hryvnia, and euros for 43.70 Hryvnia.
In the interbank market, the American currency is at the level of 41.97-41.99 UAH/dollar (buying and selling) – a decrease of 9 kopecks compared to the previous day’s close.
On Friday, the National Bank reduced the dollar exchange rate to the hryvnia after it updated its historical maximum for four days in a row – UAH 41.8761 (-0.0531 UAH). The official exchange rate of the euro today is 43.5114 UAH (-0.0656 UAH).
We remind you that last week the demand for foreign currency in the interbank market rose to its highest level since May 2022. In the week of December 16-20, the NBU sold a record $1.417 billion.
As you know, on December 12, the National Bank unexpectedly increased the discount rate. The regulator made this decision in response to inflation rising to 11.2% in November.
