Novatek is counting on lobbyists to contact US government agencies in the coming weeks.
Russia’s largest liquefied natural gas producer Novatek is trying to resume ties with the United States to lift previously imposed sanctions. This was reported by Reuters citing sources.
Novatek seeks to renew relations with the West in hopes of a quick end to the war in Ukraine.
The company’s senior executive director and board member Denis Soloviev recently visited Washington to begin work at an American lobbying firm.
Novatek and lobbyists plan to approach US government agencies in the coming weeks.
US Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Resources Geoffrey Pyatt told the agency that the State Department was aware of Novatek’s visit to Washington, but suggested the company would not make significant progress in relations with the Biden administration.
“It’s not time for business as usual in Russia… Russia is in a penalty area, and my job is to make sure it stays there as long as possible – as long as the illegal war continues, of course,” Payette explained.
In the past, the media wrote that, despite many years of sanctions, Russia annually buys thousands of Western rifles and millions of cartridges from companies from the European Union and the United States. No one sells them directly, but due to third countries, significant quantities of various weapons end up in the Russian Federation.
