During the visit, Svenja Schulze will personally transfer part of the aid to the population of Ukraine that Germany promised for the third winter of the war.
German Economic Cooperation and Development Minister Svenja Schulze arrived in Kyiv on an unannounced visit. This was reported by Deutsche Welle on Thursday, December 12.
“I went to Ukraine to deliver our winter aid package,” he said upon arrival in the Ukrainian capital.
The main focus is the restoration of the Ukrainian energy infrastructure. therefore, the German government has once again found additional funding to help restore electricity and heat supplies, the minister said.
“In these temperatures, it’s important to have electricity and heating,” Schulze emphasized. So he determined to make sure himself that “the money really goes where it’s needed.”
During the visit, Schulze will meet with representatives of the Ukrainian government and civil society, and will also get acquainted with several infrastructure restoration projects.
This is Svenya Schulze’s fourth visit to Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale war. The focus of the trip in May was the expansion of electricity grids in Ukraine.
The day before, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced winter aid to Ukraine. We are talking about 70 million euros for small thermal power plants, boilers, generators and solar power plants and other systems so that our state can go through the winter with more confidence in the face of the attacks of Russia in the energy sector.
