The corresponding bill defines the procedure for confiscation of digital currencies, recognition of them as material evidence and confiscation of this property.
The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation has developed a bill that provides for the arrest and confiscation of cryptocurrency in criminal cases. This was said by the head of the Russian department, Alexander Bastrykin, the Russian propaganda news agency reports. RIA Novosti.
“This year, employees of the department developed a draft federal law on amendments to the law on criminal and criminal procedure, according to which digital money is recognized as property for the purposes of criminal law,” the Russian official explained.
The document defines the procedure for the confiscation of digital currencies, their recognition as material evidence and the seizure of this property, and also determines the features of the seizure of digital currencies during of investigative actions.
This initiative is currently being considered by the government. In the past, Bastrykin has spoken of the need to recognize digital currencies as property for the purposes of criminal law, so that investigators can investigate criminal cases where such currency appears as the subject of bribery or theft.
As we already wrote, the price of Bitcoin rose sharply after the announcement of the victory of Donald Trump in the US presidential election. On Election Day, the cryptocurrency traded at $69,000, rising to $75,000 after Trump’s victory was confirmed. The $100,000 breakout came hours after the announcement of key appointments in the new Trump administration, including Paul Atkins, a former Republican member of the SEC, to lead the regulator.
