Honey produced under the old requirements can be produced for another three years from the date the new order begins (ie, until May 2028), and sold until the expiration date.
The Ministry of Agrarian Policy has updated the requirements for honey. The changes concern both terminology and product composition. Ligazakon wrote this on Tuesday, December 3.
The updated requirements take into account the provisions of Directive 2001/110 EU on honey and Directive (EC) 2024/1438, which ensure compliance of Ukrainian legislation with European standards.
According to the new requirements, the label of a jar of honey must indicate the country where it was collected. If the honey comes from several countries, you will need to indicate all countries with percentages.
There is also a ban on extracting pollen and other natural substances from honey, except for mechanical impurities.
“This is aimed at preserving the naturalness and beneficial properties of the product,” the message said.
It is stated that the new requirements for honey are aimed at improving the quality and naturalness of honey on the Ukrainian market, protecting the rights of consumers by providing them with complete and truthful information about the product and promoting export of Ukrainian honey to the European market.
Exports of Ukrainian honey to EU countries in January-June 2024 reached 40.6 thousand tons worth $70.7 million. USA.
We remind you that from August 21, Ukrainian honey imported by EU countries is subject to tariff quotas of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA) between Ukraine and the EU.
