Russia is willingly fueling the discontent expressed in the EU and is behind a lot of disinformation, says Katarina Maternova.
The leaders of European states should not distance themselves from overcoming disinformation and Russian narratives in their societies aimed against Ukraine’s entry into the European Union. In fact, each new wave of EU enlargement has been very successful for the European economy. This was announced by the Ambassador of the EU to Ukraine, Katarina Maternova, in an interview with NV.
The current situation with protests against the presence of Ukrainian carriers or farmers in the European market is “it is still déjà vu,” because at one time both Polish farmers and Czech truckers were a threat, the diplomat recalled.
“And here the leaders must engage in order to explain and overcome such a reaction from society and business And this is what I say to my colleagues in Brussels – I explain that Ukraine has, in fact, already had a rehearsal for what happens. , because we unilaterally opened the internal European market for Ukrainian products as soon as possible. And we had a certain reaction. But this is why we need to explain and also overcome disinformation narrative directed against Ukraine’s accession to the EU,” Maternova emphasized.
According to him, Russia willingly reinforces the dissatisfaction expressed in the EU and is behind a lot of disinformation.
Maternova warned that “a certain deformation” may appear on the ground, which will be especially felt in the states bordering Ukraine, but this is “not new, it happens with every new wave of expansion.”
As you know, on November 23, Polish farmers started a new protest on the Ukrainian border. But on November 24, Polish strikes ended the blockade of the checkpoint.
