The National Bank plans to abandon the practice of setting exchange rates for certain currencies on a monthly basis.
The National Bank of Ukraine will change approaches to calculations and publication of foreign exchange market indicators. This applies to the exchange rate of the hryvnia to all currencies except the dollar, the NBU website reports.
The message states that the discussion of draft amendments to the Regulations on establishing the official exchange rate of the hryvnia in foreign currencies and calculating the reference value of the exchange rate in relation to the US dollar and the price of discount of banking metals has ended.
The official exchange rate of the hryvnia against the US dollar will continue to be calculated based on the results of transactions in the interbank foreign exchange market. It will be made public at 3:30 pm the next day. The NBU will also publish the settlement exchange rate of the hryvnia against the dollar starting at 12:00.
The exchange rate of the hryvnia to other currencies is set based on the exchange rate of the dollar to these currencies in the international market. This is done based on BFIX (Bloomberg Fixing) quotes. Now the value is taken at a specific moment, starting at 15:00. The rates will be calculated based on the average of the period.
The NBU plans to introduce a reference value for the hryvnia/euro exchange rate starting at 12:00.
The National Bank also intends to abandon the practice of setting exchange rates for some currencies on a monthly basis.
This list will be adjusted every three years based on current statistical data on trade turnover. At the same time, it remains possible to adjust this list more often if the trade turnover in Ukraine for the currencies included in it falls below the 90% level.
We remind you that the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) for the third time in a row left the discount rate at 13% per annum.
