Since the start of the massive invasion, the Japanese government has provided Ukraine with aid totaling more than $12 billion.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga met in Kyiv with his Japanese counterpart Iwaya Takeshi and discussed with him a wide range of issues of Ukrainian-Japanese cooperation, as well as global security challenges. At the meeting, it was learned that Japan is allocating $3 billion to help Ukraine and strengthen security cooperation. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday, November 16.
The minister noted that the Ukrainian side is grateful to the Japanese government for its support and to every Japanese who sincerely supports Ukraine against the backdrop of Russia’s aggression.
Since the start of the massive invasion, the Japanese government has provided Ukraine with aid totaling more than $12 billion. Sibiga also highlighted Japan’s recent decision to provide more than $3 billion from Russia’s frozen assets, stressing that the Ukrainian people highly appreciate such support.
During the negotiations, the heads of Ukrainian and Japanese diplomacy discussed the situation in Ukraine and the world, in particular the actual entry of North Korea into the Russian war. According to Sibiga, this indicates that the future of not only the European, but also the global security architecture is decided in Ukraine.
The minister also said that, according to Ukrainian intelligence, Pyongyang seeks to exchange its participation in aggression against Ukraine for access to Russian technologies in missile, nuclear and other military programs.
Diplomats discussed in detail the modalities of Japan’s participation in the practical implementation of the Victory Plan and the Peace Formula, the implementation of the Agreement on Support for Ukraine and Cooperation, signed this year by the two heads of state. We are talking, in particular, about strengthening dialogue on security issues at the highest level between Ukraine and Japan.
The ministers also agreed to increase the pressure of sanctions on the aggressor state.
Sibiga expressed special gratitude to Japan for its cooperation in humanitarian demining and its willingness to host a corresponding international conference next year. Now the next batch of powerful generators will be delivered. In total, this year Ukraine will receive 100 generators from Japan.
A special element of the visit was the presentation to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry of specially selected archival diplomatic documents from the times of the Ukrainian People’s Republic, the Ukrainian SSR and the early years of Ukraine’s modern history. The presented historical monuments reflect the friendliness of Ukrainian-Japanese relations at that time.

Earlier it was reported that Japan will allocate more than $3 billion as part of a loan from the G7 states to Ukraine in the amount of $50 billion, which will be repaid from the fixed assets of the Russian Central Bank.
