The BAE Systems plant in Sheffield will begin production of the M777 artillery howitzer next year.
Arms company BAE Systems will open an artillery plant in Sheffield (UK) as part of its support for Ukrainian forces in the fight against Russian aggression. The Telegraph reported it.
The M777 howitzer production plant will begin next year. The decision effectively canceled the company’s intention to reduce artillery production in the UK, as Russia’s war against Ukraine required the weapons.
Now many howitzers, equipped by the USA, Canada and Australia in Ukraine, need modernization or repair. BAE received multimillion-dollar contracts to produce spare parts and repairs. In January, the Pentagon allocated $50m (£40m) to the company to restart titanium chassis production.
In addition, the company also agreed with the government to re-supply ammunition to the UK, including the 155mm rounds used in the M777 howitzers.
Previously, BAE Systems announced its intention to first localize the repair and then manufacture of M777 artillery mounts in Ukraine.
We remind you that Britain has noted the importance of a just peace in Ukraine.
