Russia has decided not to export gas to Austrian company OMV after winning an arbitration court case.
Russian gas giant Gazprom continued to pump steady volumes of gas into Europe through Ukraine, but supplies to Austrian energy company OMV were suspended hours after Vienna said Russia that it will cut off the flow. This was reported by Reuters on Saturday, November 16.
Russia, which before the war against Ukraine was Europe’s only supplier of natural gas, has lost almost all of its European customers.
Currently, one of the last major routes for Russian gas to Europe – the Soviet-era Urengoy-Pomary-Uzhgorod pipeline through Ukraine – is set to close at the end of this year because Kyiv does not want to renew five-year transit agreement to supply Russian gas to Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Austria.
We remind you that the Austrian oil and gas company OMV won a claim in the arbitration court for 230 million euros against the Russian Gazprom in a dispute over the interruption of gas supplies under a “German” that contract. OMV does not rule out that Gazprom could stop gas supplies to Austria for this.
