Recently, many drones were seen in the area of Khmelnitsky and South Ukrainian nuclear power plant.
Ukraine’s operating nuclear power reactors – two units at Rivne NPP, two at Khmelnitsky NPP and all three units at South Ukrainian NPP – temporarily cut power on November 11 as a preventive measure due to Russia’s aggressive actions. This was announced yesterday by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
“On November 7, the national regulator of Ukraine informed the IAEA that the Central Spent Fuel Storage Facility, located in the exclusion zone of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, was deprived of external power supply for approximately two hours and is currently using emergency diesel generators to provide electricity,” the statement also said.
In addition, the Ukrainian regulator informed the IAEA that “numerous drones” have been spotted in the area of the Khmelnitsky and South Ukrainian nuclear power plants over the past few weeks.
At the same time, the IAEA teams present at the Khmelnitsky, Rivne and South Ukrainian nuclear power plants, as well as at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, reported that nuclear safety was maintained at them.
Regarding the Russian-occupied Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi said it was undergoing maintenance on several reactor safety systems as part of a larger effort to prevent a wartime nuclear accident.
We remind you that on November 11, there were emergency power outages in some regions of Ukraine due to the threat of a missile attack. The Russians scrambled the bombers, but no missile launch took place.
And on the morning of November 13, a blackout for businesses was introduced in Ukraine. The reason for such actions was cited by the energy sector as a reduction in shunting generation capacity and a significant decrease in the volume of electricity imports. The restrictions are in effect until the evening.
