Ukraine’s energy strategy for the period until 2050 provides for an increase in nuclear generation to 24 GW.
At Pivdennoukrainsk NPP, preparations are underway for the construction of two power units using Westinghouse AP1000 technology. The station’s press service reported this the previous day.
It is indicated that a geodetic report on the selection of a site for the construction of these facilities has been developed and geological studies are underway.
“These pre-design works are a prerequisite for the preparation of a feasibility study, it will be the basis of the working documentation, which will take into account all the small steps that will build the large construction in Pivdennoukrainsk NPP,” the statement said.
According to Andrey Pistun, Deputy General Director of the PAES branch for capital construction, the plans are “very ambitious.”
“Next year we plan to commission several large projects, such as MRT2 – the Tashlyk revitalization pumping station No. 2. We also have plans for next year to commission several stages of reconstruction of spray pools with pumping station,” said the deputy stations general director.
Currently, Pivdennyukrainskaya NPP operates three power units with a total capacity of 3000 MW.
The press service also reports that Ukraine’s energy strategy for the period until 2050 provides for an increase in nuclear generation to 24 GW. Energoatom and Westinghouse have agreed to build nine new power units using AP1000 technology. The first two of them will be built at Khmelnitsky NPP, one at Rivne NPP, and two at Pivdennoukrainsk NPP. Four more units were to be built “on a new, promising site” – the Chigirinskaya NPP.
We remind you that Energoatom plans to complete the construction of power units No. 3 and No. 4 at Khmelnitsky NPP, as well as the construction of power units No. 5 and No. 6 there. The latter will be built using Westinghouse AP1000 technology.
In April of this year, the first cube of concrete for the infrastructure of power unit No. 5 was laid at Khmelnytsky NPP.
