The Czech energy company ČEZ has signed a contract to import gas from Algeria. Blue fuel started arriving in October. This was reported by the company’s press service.
“After two years of intense negotiations, ČEZ concluded a contract with the Algerian company Sonatrach,” the statement said.
The route, which passes through Tunisia and Italy, will provide gas to approximately 100 thousand households, representing 2% of annual consumption, and will also reduce the country’s dependence on traditional suppliers.
Gas supply started in October. Blue fuel is supplied from Algeria to Tunisia, through an undersea pipeline to the Italian island of Sicily, and from there to mainland Europe and the Czech Republic.
The company buys gas from Algeria at its own expense, without financial participation from the state.
“In addition to gas supplies from German suppliers, from Norway and our LNG terminal in Eemshaven (Netherlands, – edit.), we will now supply gas from fields in North Africa,” said ČEZ CEO Daniel Beneš.
Let us remind you that Hungary and the Russian company Gazprom they are discussing an agreement for 2025 on additional gas purchases by Budapest.
