From December 1, the maximum capacity of imported electricity from EU countries will increase to 2.1 GW.

Ukraine and the European Union agreed to increase the possibility of winter electricity imports to 2.1 GW. The Ministry of Energy announced this on Tuesday, October 29.

Thus, from December 1, the maximum capacity of imported electrical energy from EU countries will increase from the current 1.7 to 2.1 GW.

“This will increase the stability of the Ukrainian energy system in the face of Russian criminal attacks and destruction of infrastructure. I thank the European partners, especially the European Commissioner Kadri Simson, for their consistent position and effective measures to support our energy system on the eve of winter,” said Energy Minister German Galushchenko.

The department recalled that the need to make an important decision for Ukraine on increasing import capacity was discussed at a meeting between President Vladimir Zelensky and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen last September in Kyiv.

Also, Ukraine will also have the opportunity for a guaranteed 250 MW of electricity flow from the EU in emergency assistance mode.

We remind you that Ukraine reduced electricity imports in September. Hungary continues to occupy the largest share in the structure of electricity imports to Ukraine – 35%.
