Almost 90% of the total agricultural exports are carried out by sea.
In January-September of this year, Ukraine increased the volume of exports of agricultural products by more than a quarter, namely by 9.9 million tons. The country earned an additional $1.4 billion, the State Customs Service reported on Wednesday, October 23.
During the three quarters of 2024, Ukraine exported 48.9 million tons of agricultural products worth $10.5 billion.
“The main reason for this growth is the restoration of stable communication by sea. Thanks to today, 89% of the total export of agricultural products is carried out by sea, exporters prefer the transportation of train, only 2% is transported by road,” the report said.
Grains remain the main group of exported agricultural products – 42.3 million tons worth $7.1 billion. Another important component of agricultural product exports is oilseeds – 5 million tons worth $2.2 billion.
As for importing, there are other features. Thus, 80% of all imported agricultural products come to Ukraine by road, about 18% by sea and about 2% by rail. This is mainly due to imports from European countries, as opposed to exports, where goods are shipped around the world.
978.8 thousand tons of agricultural products worth $1.7 billion were imported into Ukraine. Almost half of all imports are edible fruits and nuts – 468 thousand tons, worth $563.8 million.
Also important in terms of the number of imported agricultural products are vegetables – 194.2 thousand tons (246.6 million dollars), and in terms of value – oilseeds for 346.5 million dollars (50.2 thousand tons).
Let us remind you that during the year of operation of the Ukrainian sea corridor in the Black Sea, it is possible to export more than 50 million tons of agricultural products. A total of 75 million tons of cargo was transported through the corridor.
It was also reported that Ukraine sold 10 million tons of grain in the new season.
