In the first half of this year, Metinvest increased the payment of budget contributions by one and a half times – up to UAH 10 billion.
The mining and metallurgical group Metinvest has paid almost 50 billion hryvnias in taxes to the state budget since the beginning of the full-scale war. The company entered the top of the largest taxpayers in Ukraine, delo.ua reported.
It is indicated that in 2021 Metinvest paid UAH 52.7 billion in taxes to the budget.
“After a full-scale raid in 2022, the amount is expected to decrease to UAH 20.5 billion, and in 2023 – to UAH 14.6 billion. The decrease in the amount of taxes paid is due to many factors, including problems with loading of assets, naval blockade, the loss of control of assets in Mariupol and the closure of the Avdeevka Coke and Chemical Plant (AKHZ) are also affected by continued shelling, logistical restrictions, power shortages and staffing shortage,” the publication wrote.
However, despite the difficult circumstances, the company is adapting and remains one of the largest taxpayers in Ukraine: in the first half of this year, Metinvest increased the payment of budget contributions by one and a half times – in UAH 10 billion.
The largest volume reductions are: fees for subsoil use (UAH 2.9 billion), unified social contributions (UAH 1.8 billion) and personal income tax (UAH 1.7 billion). The size of the unified social contribution increased by 19% compared to the same period last year, as the company officially employs its employees, regularly indexing and raising salaries.
“This is a significant contribution to the development of the country, which is especially important in the conditions in which Ukraine now finds itself. After all, the taxes received from white wages in particular allow state to allocate the necessary funds to the Armed Forces of Ukraine to carry out their tasks – primarily to ensure the country’s defense capability,” – said Tatyana Petruk, Director for Sustainable Development and Personnel Relations at Metinvest Group.
The publication states that Metinvest’s assets in front-line cities generate taxes for local budgets. Thus, in 2023 alone, businesses pay more than UAH 261 million in taxes to the Pokrovsk community – a third of all tax revenues in the local budget.
Earlier, Metinvest called the lack of personnel the main challenge for industrial enterprises in Ukraine. Businesses are already facing a situation where they cannot increase production due to lack of workers. Currently, Metinvest has more than 4 thousand open vacancies.
