According to the publication, sanctions were not extended against eleven of the thirteen individuals and nearly seventy legal entities.
Ukraine did not extend the sanctions against most of the so-called “kings of smuggling” imposed in 2021, the publication Zerkalo Nedeli stated, citing the official response of the SBU to a request from journalists.
According to the publication, the sanctions decree No. 169/2021, which was implemented until April 2024, was not extended in relation to eleven of the thirteen individuals.
In particular, at the request of the Mirror of the Week, the SBU said that for three years, authorized state bodies, in accordance with their capabilities, monitor the effectiveness of sanctions, and in April 2024, the punishment is extended in relation to individuals who persist. to create a real and/or potential threat to the national interest. The intelligence service also added that they continue to carry out the necessary counterintelligence activities and will begin the introduction of restrictive measures in the event of new threats to state security.
The publication indicates that Vladimir Polusitko, Denis Aminev, Eduard Kukoba, Mikhail Gribnov, the former head of the capital’s customs Yuri Dvorak, as well as Seyar Kurshutov – the first number on the list of sanctions from the 2021 decree – is removed from the sanctions. The latter “in some circles is called the “friend of all friends,” a person who knows with whom and how to make an agreement to establish and maintain processes,” writes Zerkalo Nedeli.
“Evil tongues say that his conditions seem to be as follows: Kurshutov works for the state for 25 days, and five for himself, although more evil tongues deny, they say, the amount of smuggling is now “for himself” even five hours will be enough…” – said the publication.
In addition to the list of individuals, the sanction decree also contains a list of legal entities suspected of participating in smuggling schemes. According to the Mirror of the Week, about seven dozen companies “fell” off this list. Moreover, according to the publication, most of these companies, despite the restrictions imposed, did not go bankrupt and continued to operate.
Let’s recall that in April 2021, Ukraine for the first time implemented economic sanctions on some individuals called “kings of smuggling.” Three people from the sanctions list – Vadim Alperin, Alexander Erimichuk and Arayik Amirkhanyan – were deprived of Ukrainian citizenship. In April 2024, the extension of these sanctions was announced.
