The EEAS believes that voluntary contributions are a possible solution to the problem of Budapest’s position on aid to Kyiv.
The European External Action Service (EEAS) is considering the idea of voluntary contributions to the European Peace Fund to provide military aid to Ukraine in the event of Hungary’s veto. Bloomberg news agency reported this with reference to sources on Monday, October 7.
Such a procedure, according to the EEAS, would allow the transfer of financial aid to Ukraine only with the consent of the country that made the contribution, and not with the unanimous support of all members of the European Union.
EU permanent representatives will meet on Tuesday to discuss the proposal. However, it is not known whether the initiative will receive sufficient support from member countries.
The agency recalled that due to Hungary’s position, the European Union cannot transfer aid to Ukraine in the amount of $6.6 billion.
We remind you that Budapest is also blocking seven other decisions related to Kyiv’s armament, worth about 6.6 billion euros.
