President Vladimir Zelensky visited the main command post of the territorial defense forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, met with soldiers and awarded them state awards. This was reported by the presidential press service on Monday, October 7.
Zelensky, in particular, heard a report from the commander of the Troops Forces, Igor Plakhuta, on the work that the brigades are doing in the combat zone.
He expressed gratitude to all soldiers, sergeants and officers who earned fame and respect in the defense of the Ukrainian military.
“We all appreciate each unit of the territorial defense of Ukraine, which today continues to hold the front and provide reliable support to the positions of our other brigades standing next to the territorial defense brigades,” said by Zelensky.
The head of state awarded the defenders with state awards, in particular, he presented the order Gold Star Hero of Ukraine to Captain Yuri Zhukovets. In April of this year, as part of a combined unit in the Kharkov region, under heavy fire from the Russian invaders, he drove out the lost positions and brought new units to them. Personally administered first aid to an injured colleague, assisted him to shelter and organized evacuation. As part of the group, he captured 11 Russian invaders. He was wounded, but continued to command until the village was cleared.
In addition, five fighters received the Order of Bohdan Khmelnitsky, III degree, one – the Order For courage 2nd degree and seven orders For courage III degree.
