The UK, US and Australia have imposed sanctions against members of cybercriminal group Evil Corp. on October 1.
The US, UK and Australia have announced sanctions against individuals and entities linked to the Russian cybercriminal group Evil Corp (Evil Corporation). The press service of the US Treasury reported this on Tuesday, October 1.
Evil Corp is a Russian cybercriminal organization responsible for the development and distribution of the Dridex malware. It caused more than $100 million in damages in over 40 countries.
The founder and leader of the group, Maxim Yakubets, committed cybercrimes under the guise of working for the National Engineering Corporation, founded by the son of a member of the Russian Security Council, Igor Chaika.
Evil Corp itself and Yakubets were subject to US sanctions in 2019. Currently, the US Treasury has announced restrictions on seven individuals and two legal entities affiliated with Russian cybercriminals.
Among them were the assistant to a State Duma deputy and former FSB officer Eduard Bendersky, as well as Yakubets’ friend Alexander Ryzhenkov. The US Department of Justice has also launched an investigation against the latter on suspicion of using BitPaymer ransomware against American citizens.
The UK added 16 people associated with Evil Corp to the sanctions list, including Yakubets, Bendersky and Ryzhenkov.
Let’s recall that earlier the United States imposed sanctions against Russian virtual financial platforms PM2BTC, Cryptex and individual citizens of the Russian Federation for cybercrime and money laundering.
