Telegram’s search function is abused by people who violate the platform’s terms and conditions and sell illegal products.
Telegram messenger will provide IP addresses and phone numbers of those who violate community rules in response to requests from law enforcement. Telegram founder Pavel Durov announced this on Monday, September 23.
According to him, such changes were introduced to enhance user security. Over the past few weeks, a dedicated team of moderators using artificial intelligence has made Telegram search safer. All problematic content discovered has been blocked.
“To further prevent criminals from abusing Telegram searches, we’ve updated our Terms of Use and Privacy Policy to ensure they’re consistent around the world. We’ve made it clear that those IP address and phone number of those who violate our policies, may be provided to the relevant authorities in response to legitimate requests,” said Durov.
Telegram search is intended to find friends and news, and not to promote illegal products, says the founder of the messenger.
Let’s recall that earlier the National Coordination Center for Cybersecurity decided to limit the use of Telegram to government agencies, military formations, and critical infrastructure facilities.
The decision is advisory in nature for the Cabinet of Ministers and does not apply to official Telegram channels of government bodies.
