The mission participated in consultations with the Russian authorities as part of the annual review of the Russian economy.
The International Monetary Fund has postponed a planned consultation mission to Russia indefinitely due to technical problems. Alexey Mozhin, executive director for Russia at the IMF, said this in an interview with TASS.
“The leadership of the fund has informed the Russian side and the Board of Directors that the work of the mission will be postponed indefinitely. .
According to Mozhin, the Russian side is aware that many European countries “spoke publicly about the unacceptable continuation of cooperation between the IMF and Russia and the non-acceptance of such consultations.”
Preparations for the consultations began more than a year ago; the initiative came from the employees of the fund.
“The Russian side has never asked for consultations, but has always expressed its readiness to accept the mission of the fund to fulfill the obligations under the IMF Charter. The Russian side reaffirms such readiness,” said the executive director .
Let’s recall that in early September the IMF announced that for the first time since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine it would send its official mission to Moscow. It is assumed that the mission will start working online on September 16, and then the IMF delegation will visit Moscow for meetings with Russian officials before October 1.
How much will the IMF allocate to Ukraine in the new tranche?
