Now there is discussion and dialogue about what the budget will be for 2025, the head of government said.
Ukrainian authorities are carrying out complex and difficult work with the IMF mission on the 5th revision of the EFF program. Prime Minister Denis Shmyhal said this at a press conference on Tuesday, September 10.
“Difficult work, difficult mission, I say with full responsibility, difficult negotiations with the IMF, many challenges, in fact, this mission is looking forward to 2025,” he said.
Shmygal recalled that this was the first mission since the beginning of the entire Russian invasion to operate directly in Kyiv with the presence of the mission leadership.
“We practically work, I will say without exaggeration, around the clock with them, because during the day we work with the mission, at night the mission works in Washington, seven days a week: on Saturdays and Sundays, fellow ministers , deputy ministers did our teams work on the mission, “said the head of the government.
He explained the complexity of the work by saying that there is discussion and dialogue about what 2025 will be, what the 2025 budget should be.
“What steps should Ukraine, as a state, take for its part, and what steps should the IMF take, on the part of the G7 partners, which they promised at the beginning of this program, as we move forward in 2025. Because the plans for 2024 in the IMF program are different than what is happening in reality, now we are actually starting 2025 from scratch, and therefore this mission is, let’s say, unusual, complicated,” Shmygal said.
He also said that the IMF included in the terms of its program the appointment of members of the supervisory board and the chairman of the board of Ukrenergo according to OECD principles.
Let’s recall that in early September the IMF started a mission for the fifth revision of the EFF extended financing program, which will allow Ukraine to attract $1.1 billion in the fall of this year.
The IMF also announced an updated memorandum with Ukraine, the fulfillment of the terms of which will determine additional support for our state.
