Additional aid to the energy sector of $49 million is aimed at supporting the most vulnerable segments of Ukraine’s population.
The Swedish government has approved additional funding of 500 million Swedish kronor (about $49 million) to support heating and electricity supplies in Ukraine. This was reported by the press service of the country’s government on Thursday, September 5.
Additional aid to the energy sector is aimed at supporting the most vulnerable segments of the Ukrainian population.
“According to World Bank estimates, the support could generate electricity for 185,000 people, which would be Sweden’s largest contribution to Ukraine’s energy supply,” the statement said.
Minister of International Cooperation and Foreign Trade Johann Forssell noted that the additional funds will be used to generate electricity, helping to maintain the stability of the Ukrainian economy, business and society in the face of Russian attacks on the energy infrastructure.
The contribution is expected to provide electricity to hospitals and thousands of households.
Part of the project includes the installation of two gas turbines to generate electricity initially. The production facility will be protected in such a way as to minimize the destructive consequences of Russian attacks.
The main responsibility for Sweden’s contribution rests with the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency. The project represents a joint investment with the Ukrainian state energy company and other international financial institutions. The goal is to have this production facility operational by 2025.
Let us remind you that the European Investment Bank is about to agree on a support package for the Ukrainian energy sector worth 250 million euros.
It was also reported that the European Investment Bank (EIB) will provide loans to Ukraine in the amount of 560 million euros this year for energy projects, transport infrastructure and housing restoration.
