There is an excess of electricity in the Ukrainian energy system during daytime hours, when solar power plants are actively operating.
Ukraine will resume exporting electricity as the situation in the energy system stabilizes. Ukrenergo reported this on Friday, August 23.
It is indicated that since yesterday the heat in Ukraine began to subside, and on Friday morning, the consumption decreased significantly. In addition, the power unit of one of the nuclear power plants is beyond repair. All this leads to an excess of power in the energy system during the hours of the day, when solar power plants (SPP) are actively working.
“To avoid accidents, the energy system must work in a balanced way – the amount of energy produced per minute must correspond to the amount consumed. There can be two ways to overcome the excess: limiting the generation of Ukrainian solar power plants and continuing the export of electricity during the day,” the message said.
Ukrenergo considers it not economically appropriate to limit the operation of solar power plants. Therefore, from August 25, it is planned to continue exporting electricity to neighboring countries. Tomorrow an auction will be held for access to interstate crossings in the direction of Romania, Hungary and Moldova. This will avoid restrictions for domestic electricity producers.

“We remember that exports will take place exclusively in periods of excess – during the active operation of solar power plants in periods of maximum consumption, when there is not enough power in the energy system, electricity is cannot be exported from Ukraine,” the company assured.
We remind you that in July two nuclear power plant units came out of repair. It also helped to stabilize the situation during the heat wave in Ukraine.
After that, Ukrenergo said that the situation in the energy system has improved, and the worst summer season is behind us.
