Tesla asked to list its rate based on specific subsidies the company received. The automaker has cooperated with the EU investigation.
The European Commission, in a review, reduced the planned tariff on imports of Tesla vehicles made in China to 9%. Reuters wrote this on Tuesday, August 20.
As a result, the company received a new reduced rate compared to the 20.8% announced in July.
The EC noted that some Chinese companies that are part of joint ventures with EU automakers could receive lower punitive duties.
Tesla asked to list its rate based on specific subsidies the company received. The automaker has cooperated with the EU investigation.
The decision also provides for minor adjustments in duty rates for other automakers. In particular, for BYD it will be 17%, Geely – 19.3% and SAIC – 36.3%. Other manufacturers that do not pass the commission’s inspection will be subject to a duty of 21.3%.
As before, the EU believes that Chinese electric vehicle production has benefited from large subsidies. Therefore, automakers that did not cooperate with the EU’s anti-subsidy investigation face a tariff of 36.3%.
We remind you that Tesla has reduced prices for many models of electric cars in the USA, China and other countries.
Tesla has also reportedly recalled 3,878 Cybertrucks due to a malfunction. Vehicles should replace the gas pedal cover, which can come loose and stick to the trim.
