So far, this year’s heat wave has affected early crops such as wheat, barley, peas, rapeseed, rye and oats, but losses have been small.
Losses of final crops in Ukraine due to drought can reach 10-15%. This is what the acting Minister of Agrarian Policy Taras Vysotsky said in the telethon on Wednesday, August 7.
The abnormal heat affected the first crops such as wheat, barley, peas, rapeseed, rye and oats, but the losses were small – up to 2-3%. The southeastern regions suffered the most.
However, significant losses are expected in final crops such as sunflower, maize and sugar beet.
It is expected that the effect of abnormal temperature will lead to a reduction in the yield of these crops by up to 15%. The exact numbers will be known in September-October, after the harvest.
Let us remind you that earlier farmers reduced their harvest estimates in Ukraine this year due to the drought in July.
It has also been reported that due to the abnormal heat in Ukraine, the yield of early crops will be reduced by 5%, and late crops may lose up to 15%. These data were announced by Acting Minister of Agrarian Policy Taras Vysotsky.
