The station was closed for nine years, its equipment was mothballed and its full functionality was retained.
Lithuanian energy company Ignitis Gamyba Ignitis Gamyba has donated equipment from the Vilnius CHPP-3 to Ukraine, which will help restore Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. This was reported by the company’s press service.
“In response to the critical situation, Ignitis Gamyba is taking significant steps – donating equipment to the Vilnius Third Thermal Power Plant (Vilnius CHPP-3), which will help restore the destroyed energy infrastructure in Ukraine,” said the statement.
Vilnius CHPP-3 operations were stopped in 2015 because its operating costs were too high and it was determined that the power units did not have a significant impact on the stability of the power system.
“Despite the fact that the station has been closed for nine years, we were able to mothball its equipment, maintaining its full functionality. Now this equipment will contribute to the restoration of important infrastructure in Ukraine,” the company said.
The humanitarian cargo donated by Ignitis Gamyba includes more than 300 pieces of critical equipment from the Vilnius Thermal Power Plant-3.
Let’s remember that Germany plans to move 400 generators to Ukraine to help survive the consequences of a Russian invasion.
As reported, only 27% of large thermal power plants (TPP) in Ukraine remain operational, and the rest have been damaged or destroyed as a result of enemy shelling.
