Chinese automakers have called on Beijing to raise tariffs on imported European gasoline-powered cars.
Further contradictions with the EU over the import of Chinese electric vehicles could lead to a trade war. The tariff increases have prompted China to use countermeasures and Chinese officials have strongly criticized the increases. This was announced by official Beijing, Reuters reported on Friday, June 21.
German Economics Minister Robert Habeck’s three-day visit to China is the official’s first visit to China since the EU proposed raising tariffs on imports of Chinese-made electric vehicles.
This week, Chinese automakers called on Beijing to raise tariffs on imported European gasoline cars, and the Chinese government launched an investigation into dumped EU pork imports in response to the European Commission’s actions.
The EU’s decision on tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles has lowered trade relations with China to a new low. Chinese state media portrayed the visit as an opportunity to ease tensions.
As we have already written, in July the European Union will introduce additional duties on electric vehicles from China at the level of 38.1%, which will lead to an increase in the value of vehicle sales in Europe for companies from in Chinese BYD to Tesla.
