The Association of Legal Tobacco Manufacturers supported the actions of law enforcement agencies to combat the illicit trade and called on them not to stop.
Over the past six months, the volume of illicit trade in tobacco products has decreased significantly. This became possible thanks to the active actions of law enforcement and regulatory authorities, as well as the decisive position of legal enterprises, said the Ukrainian Association of Tobacco Manufacturers Ukrtabak.
“According to the latest wave of the KANTAR Ukraine study, the share of the shadow sector of the tobacco market in April 2024 decreased to 18% of the total market volume. This is the first example in the last four and a half years when the decrease in the shadow of market is continuously monitored within two waves of the study,” – said the statement.
According to the general director of the association, Natalya Fesyun, it is now necessary to continue a consistent fight against the illegal cigarette trade.
“Stopping that would mean a reactive growth of the shadow sector of the tobacco market, which has repeatedly shown extreme flexibility and high resistance to the actions of law enforcement officials, using creative strategies to solving crisis situations In this regard, Ukrtabak supports the actions of the National Police of Ukraine, the Bureau of Economic Security of Ukraine, the State border service of Ukraine, the State Tax Service of Ukraine, the State Customs Service of Ukraine and the Office of the Prosecutor General in the field of combating illicit trade in tobacco products,” he said.
We remind you that on June 10, the National Police announced the neutralization of a large-scale underground production of cigarettes in the Kiev region. And at the end of May, the Bureau of Economic Security seized an illegal cigarette production line.
According to the BEB, since the beginning of the year, law enforcement officers, as part of the work of an interdepartmental working group, have seized approximately 14.4 million packs of illegal cigarettes.
