The Verkhovna Rada Committee on Energy and Housing and Communal Services approved at a meeting on Monday, June 17, a bill on the placement, design and construction of power units No. 3 and No. 4 of the Khmelnytsky NPP. This is discussed on the parliament website.
For the construction of units based on the VVER-1000 reactor, Energoatom provides for the purchase of nuclear fuel, technologies, equipment, installations, special non-nuclear materials and related services from Westinghouse (USA) .
Construction of the X3/X4 will increase annual electricity production by 16.2 billion kWh, and output by 15.4 billion kWh.
According to Energy Minister German Galushchenko, the third unit can be connected to the network three years after the start of work on its completion, the fourth – after four years.
Financing the construction of power units is mostly planned through loan funds, as well as Energoatom’s own funds.
The third block will not be built from scratch, but the equipment for the construction part of the third block is 80% ready.
A large number of specialists from the temporarily occupied Zaporozhye NPP, who left the territory of the station, will participate in the construction of the units.
Earlier it was reported that in 2024 Ukraine will start construction of four reactors at KhNPP. Two of them were previously built, but frozen.
