Thanks to the high qualification of Ukrainian nuclear workers, it is possible to significantly reduce the time required for scheduled maintenance and optimize all processes, the energy company reported.
The national nuclear power generating company Energoatom has announced a reduction in the time frame for the repair campaign to prepare for an uninterrupted supply of electricity during the autumn-winter period.
“The repair campaign takes place annually in accordance with the schedules drawn up by Ukrenergo and approved by the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine Timely implementation of scheduled repairs in nuclear power units is more important during of repair, spent nuclear fuel is unloaded from the reactor, and fresh nuclear fuel is loaded “This ensures continuous operation of the power unit for about a year from the moment of overload,” quoted of the press service the head of JSC NNEGC Energoatom Petr Kotin and added that the head of the energy company especially noted the important role of Ukrainian nuclear workers, thanks to whose high qualifications it is possible to significantly reduce the -schedule preventive maintenance and optimize all processes.
“Our specialists work around the clock in accordance with regulations and comply with all safety standards, during the last heating period, the operational efficiency of all nine nuclear power units operating in the Ukrainian-controlled territory reached 100%, they continue to emit electricity,” Kotin stressed.
According to him, it is thanks to the timely and high-quality repair campaign last year that the 2023/2024 heating season was completed without many losses and interruptions in the electricity supply, despite the significant destruction of energy infrastructure as a result of Russia’s shelling.
We remind you that on June 8, a unit of one of the nuclear power plants was put into operation in Ukraine after scheduled repairs. This should reduce the power shortage in Ukraine caused by Russian attacks.
In May it was reported that Energoatom planned to build two power units at the South Ukrainian Nuclear Power Plant using technology from the American company Westinghouse.
