An advertising campaign on AliExpress featuring Beckham will run alongside the UEFA Euro 2024 football tournament.
Chinese online store AliExpress has signed a contract with famous soccer player and former England captain David Beckham as a brand ambassador, Reuters reports.
It has been noted that with this move, Alibaba Group hopes to increase global sales as China’s domestic e-commerce growth rate slows.
AliExpress’s international division is the group’s fastest-growing division, with revenues up 45% in the first quarter compared to the same period last year.
AliExpress’s advertising campaign featuring Beckham is planned to run alongside the UEFA Euro 2024 football tournament, which the Chinese online retailer is also sponsoring, and will encourage shoppers to get more from AliExpress.
The decision by Alibaba Group, which owns AliExpress, to advertise with football legend Beckham follows a similar move by its cross-border e-commerce rival Temu PDD Holdings, which has successfully run a similar campaign in the US during the current Super Bowl, asking consumers to “shop like a billionaire.”
According to the American mobile analysis company Apptopia, the number of downloads of the Temu program after showing its ad on the day of the last game increased by 34% compared to the previous day, so AliExpress also decided to focus on fans of football.
AliExpress is present in more than 100 markets and actively uses its competitive advantages by investing in global logistics and offers five-day delivery windows for purchases in 11 markets.
Earlier it was reported that David Beckham became the designer of the men’s line of the Hugo Boss collection.
