Beijing is preparing civilian ferries and ships for a possible invasion of Taiwan amid pressure on the island nation.
Chinese authorities are preparing a fleet of ferries and civilian ships to attack Taiwan as Beijing ramps up pressure on the island nation, The Telegraph reports.
It was noted that the People’s Liberation Army of China did not have the military landing ships needed for a large-scale naval invasion of Taiwan. However, military vehicles can replace civilians, capable of transporting hundreds of armored vehicles. They could also be used to transport troops en masse across the Taiwan Strait, said SeaLight project director Ray Powell, who studies the situation in the gray zone of the South China Sea.
Beijing began two days of military exercises in the waters around Taiwan that it called “severe punishment for separatist actions” after the inaugural speech in Taipei by Lai Ching-to, who was sworn in as president.
In the past, the media reported that the United States was preparing to fight China in Taiwan. The US and Philippine Marines conducted military exercises. They practiced landing from helicopters, attacking and investigating the area.
Let’s recall that the new President of Taiwan, Lai Chinte, in his inaugural speech called on China to recognize the government of Taiwan and start a dialogue with Taipei.
