The tariff increase depends on the level of electricity consumption, said German Galushchenko.
Electricity tariffs will increase in Ukraine. The corresponding decision will be made by the government at the end of May. Minister of Energy German Galushchenko said this during question time for the government in the Verkhovna Rada on Friday, May 24.
“This issue is under consideration, now we are making final calculations, the decision will be made in the next week, that is, before the end of May… We are currently considering a differentiated approach I don’t think that one the tariff will only be changed to another – there will be a difference depending on the amount of electricity consumption,” said the minister.
Galushchenko explained that now the electricity tariff for the population does not cover the cost of electricity production. And companies like Energoatom and Ukrhydroenergo pay the difference between the market price of a kilowatt-hour and tariffs for the population as part of fulfilling special obligations to ensure the availability of electricity for consumers of household (PSO).
We remind you that from June 1, 2023, the Cabinet of Ministers increased the electricity bills for the population to 2.64 UAH/kWh. And on June 30 last year in Ukraine, the price of electricity for business increased significantly.
A few days ago it became known that in Ukraine the maximum price of electricity for business has increased. They will start operating on June 1.
Tariffs for the population were not changed, but this issue reappeared on the agenda after the Russian strikes on the Ukrainian energy sector this spring. Most of the thermal power plants were disabled, and several hydroelectric power stations were also damaged. The government plans to receive additional funds for the repair and restoration of energy facilities by increasing the tariff.
