More than half of Peruvians aged 18 and over have access to the financial system.

Between January and March of this year, 53% population over 18 gained access to the financial system, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics. This represents an increase of 3.3% over the same quarter last year and an increase of 7.8 and 11 percentage points over the same period in 2020 and 2019, respectively.

According to this indicator, 56.2% have an account in a bank, the banking system; an increase of 3.5 percentage points compared to the same quarter in 2021 and 8.1 and 11.4 percentage points compared to the same period in 2020 and 2019, respectively.

What bank accounts do they have?

By type of account, 55.1% have savings account or payroll account, 2.9% current account and 0.9% term account. Compared to the same quarter in 2021, the population with a savings or payroll account increased by 3.4 percentage points. It should be noted that the analyzed population may have more than one account in the financial system.

Population aged 18 to 29 who have gained access to Financial system and that this year alone it is 61.0%, in the case of persons aged 30 to 44 they are 61%, an increase of 3.5% compared to the same quarter in 2021.

The same report warns that until the first quarter of this year, 55.9% of the population has comprehensive health insurance (SIS), representing an increase of 5% compared to 2021, to 10.3% compared to 2020 and 11.6% more than in 2020. the same period in 2019.

It should be noted that 83.5% of the country’s population has some type of health insurance, which is 6.3 percentage points more than in the first quarter of 2021. Of the total population associated with some type of health insurance, 55.9% have access to only comprehensive health insurance (SIS), 22.7% to social health insurance (EsSalud) and 4.9% to other health insurance.
