The geopolitical world order changed on February 24, which marked the end of European energy naivety, the head of DTEK in Brussels said.
The export of electricity from Ukraine will help the European Union eliminate its energy dependence on Russia. This was stated by DTEK CEO Maxim Timchenko in Brussels at the Power Summit 2022 forum.
“Now the most urgent question is how to get rid of reliance on Russia’s energy carriers and break away from such an unreliable partner. Ukraine is part of this solution,” said the head of DTEK.
He stressed that Ukraine has great opportunities for the development of renewable energy sources, which can be exported to the EU. This is fully in line with the EU’s clean energy and decarbonization policy.
“The geopolitical world order changed on February 24, which marked the end of the European energy naivete. I believe that now everyone understands that it is a mistake to consider geopolitics and energy as different fields. The EU, Ukraine – we all live in a new reality, “said Timchenko.
It will be recalled that on March 16, 2022, Ukraine joined the unified energy grid of EU countries. According to experts, in the future Ukraine could export up to 7.7 GW of electricity to the EU, which will be replaced by up to 20 billion cubic meters. m of Russian gas.
Currently, Rinat Akhmetov’s company DTEK exports electricity to Europe.
