“The EU has finally approved ‘trade visa-free’ for Ukraine. This is duty-free and quota-free trade for another year. Important support for our producers, exports and economy. We continue integration with the EU at an accelerated pace,” he wrote.
In turn, Ukrinform referring to the European Commission, it clarifies that the elimination of duties and quotas takes into account “certain European concerns.” Europeans have agreed to tougher safeguards in the event of irregularities in the EU market.
“Additional protection measures can be applied to goods such as chicken eggs, poultry, sugar, oats, corn, cereals and honey. Protections will be automatically applied if the import volume of these goods is reached the average annual volume of imports from Ukraine to the EU in the period from July 1, 2021 to December 31, 2023,” the message said.
The agreed document will enter into force on June 6 and will be valid until June 5, 2025.
As you know, in May 2022, the Council of the EU for the first time decided to remove all duties and quotas on exports from Ukraine for one year to support the full-scale invasion of Russia. This regime was extended in 2023.
At the same time, due to farmers’ dissatisfaction, the EU introduced temporary restrictions on certain types of agricultural products for several months in 2023, and some countries, notably Poland, extended the these even after they have been unilaterally canceled at the EU level.
