The new power units No. 4 and No. 5 will be built using AP1000 technology from the American company Westinghouse.
NAEC Energoatom plans to build two power units at the South Ukrainian Nuclear Power Plant. The company announced this on Wednesday, May 8.
“At the South Ukrainian NPP, where three power units with a total capacity of 3,000 MW are currently operating, two new power units No. 4 and No. 5 will be built using Westinghouse AP1000 technology,” the statement said.
In particular, it is planned to start engineering, survey and pre-design work now. They will be done at the expense of funds Energoatom.
“We are starting preparations for the construction of two new power units at the site of the Volga nuclear power plant taking into account Ukraine’s urgent needs for modern reliable generation and the long construction cycle, we should start the process this now, carry out the engineering survey and pre-design work, carry out the necessary calculations, etc. I remind you that according to the Energy Strategy of Ukraine, by 2050 we need to have 24 GW of nuclear power,” said the acting head. We remind you Energoatom plans to complete the construction of power units No. 3 and No. 4 at Khmelnitsky NPP, as well as the construction of power units No. 5 and No. 6 there. The latter will be built using Westinghouse AP1000 technology.
In April of this year, the first cube of concrete for the infrastructure of power unit No. 5 was laid at Khmelnytsky NPP.
