The biggest part of the damage was to Rinat Akhmetov: according to American journalists, he lost $1.7 billion in one year.
The 2024 world ranking of the American Forbes magazine of the richest people in the world includes five Ukrainians: Rinat Akhmetov (785th place), Victor Pinchuk (1623rd), Vadim Novinsky (2410th), Konstantin Zhevago (2410th) and Gennady Bogolyubov (2692nd). However, all of them have become more difficult over the years, and above all – the richest Ukrainian, Rinat Akhmetov.
According to Forbes estimates, Akhmetov lost $1.7 billion a year. Currently, his remaining assets are worth $4 billion. Other Ukrainian businessmen lost incomparably less: Pinchuk – $100 million (assets $2 billion), Novinsky – $200 million ($1.2 billion) , Zhevago – $100 million ($1.2 billion), Bogolyubov – $100 million ($1 billion) ). Igor Kolomoisky, who was ranked 2540 last year, dropped in the rankings.
According to Forbes, French businessman Bernard Arnault became the richest man in the world. The owner of the world leader in the fashion industry, LVMH, is worth $195 billion.
Despite the sanctions, the number of Russian billionaires in the Forbes world ranking has increased – from 110 to 125. There may be more of them, but 10 participants in the ranking renounced Russian citizenship.
According to Forbes, there are now 2,781 billionaires in the world – 141 more than last year and 26 more than the record set in 2021.
Let’s recall that earlier Ukrainian media estimated the losses of Akhmetov’s metallurgical business for 2023 at more than 70 billion hryvnias. According to the official financial report, the holding Metinvestone of Akhmetov’s properties, received a net loss of $194 million last year. At the same time, nine holding enterprises are included in the ranking of the best companies in Ukraine.
