The Kuibyshev oil refinery in the Russian city of Samara, owned by Rosneft, shut down one of its two main processing units, knocking out half of its capacity. Reuters reported this on Monday, March 25.
It was noted that the installation’s production capacity is 9.5 thousand tons per day (70 thousand barrels per day), which is almost half of the refinery’s capacity.
Another major oil refining unit has a production capacity of 10.5 thousand tons of oil per day. It is not clear if the device is working properly.
Last year, the Kuibyshev Refinery was the 29th largest oil refinery in Russia in terms of production volume, accounting for 1.34% of total oil refining – 3.687 million tons of crude oil.
We remind you that on March 23, an explosion occurred at an oil refinery near the city of Novokuybyshevsk, Samara Region of the Russian Federation, and then a fire started. According to preliminary data, the plant was attacked by a drone.
Since the beginning of the year, 13 Russian refineries have been attacked. The drone attack led to the year’s biggest weekly increase in global oil prices.
The United States called on Ukraine to stop attacks on Russian energy infrastructure, as drone attacks on refineries could lead to an increase in world oil prices.
