Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said on March 20 that two new armies will be created in 2024, which will be formed from 14 divisions and 16 brigades. The enemy probably planned to combine mechanized, armored, artillery and logistics units. The UK Ministry of Defense announced this on March 25 on the social network X.
The British speculated that these new formations were related to the preliminary announcements of new units and the planned increase in the number of brigades in the divisions.
Foreign intelligence does not rule out the possibility that the occupiers are able to squeeze out these armies with human resources. However, there are problems with the lack of new equipment and infrastructure.
Given limited training in Russia, widespread use of outdated equipment and infrastructure problems, it is likely that these units will face similar resource problems, the British department noted.
Let us recall that in the fall of 2023, the Main Intelligence Directorate stated that the rate of mobilization of Russians for the war against Ukraine was more than 20 thousand people per month. Moscow recruits not only prisoners, but also debtors and representatives of unreliable categories of the population who promise a salary. Conscripts are also mobilized for war.
