The activation of foreign aid receipts will significantly increase the amount of international reserves, predicts the regulator.
In March-April, Ukraine may receive up to $10 billion from Western partners. The National Bank announced this on Thursday, March 14.
The regulator notes that the risk of insufficient international funding remains, but recently there have been positive developments on this issue.
In particular, the NBU recalled that at the end of February the Council of the European Union approved the launch of the Ukraine Facility instrument with a total volume of 50 billion euros for 2024 – 2027. As part of this, Ukraine should receive a transition financing in the amount of 4.5 billion euros in March.
In addition, Ukraine reached a staff-level agreement on the third program review with the IMF and is awaiting a decision by the Fund’s Board of Directors in a week.
“In general, Ukraine may receive more than $10 billion in March-April. The activation of foreign aid receipts in the near future will significantly increase the amount of international reserves,” the report said .
In this regard, the Deputy Head of the NBU Sergei Nikolaychuk said in a briefing today that Ukraine expects to receive 4.5 billion euros from the EU in March, 1.5 billion from Canada, 1.5 billion from the World Bank, and 900 million from the IMF . . The EU will provide another 1.5 billion euros in April.
As you know, in July 2023, Ukraine’s reserves set a historical record of $41.7 billion. After that they refused. Only in December did reserves increase due to foreign exchange earnings from foreign partners.
And due to a sharp cut in external financing, Ukraine’s international reserves in February fell by 3.8% ($1.47 billion) to $37.05 billion.
