Turkey’s largest player in the transshipment of Russian oil, which received record volumes in 2023, has completely closed operations here.
Global Terminal Services (GTS), which operates the Dortyol terminal, has notified customers that it will not accept cargo from Russia, The Moscow Times reports.
Thus, the Turkish Dortyol terminal, which received a record volume of Russian oil in 2023, has completely closed operations here.
“GTS decided to stop all possible operations related to Russian oil and at the end of February 2024 notified its customers that even if there is no violation of any laws, regulations or sanctions, the company will not accept products of Russian origin or products shipped from Russian ports, as an additional measure to the current terms of sanctions,” the company said in a statement.
It was noted that the decision was made after increasing pressure of sanctions from the United States.
“Washington’s threat of sanctions against companies doing business with Russia has already hit Turkish-Russian trade, disrupting or slowing payments for both Russian oil and Turkish exports,” wrote The Moscow Times.
Türkiye has become one of the largest importers of Russian oil and gasoline. According to data from the analytics company Kpler, the Dortyol terminal received 11.74 million barrels of Russian oil in 2023, which is seven times higher than the total volume from all shippers in 2021. -exports from the terminal jump to about 24.7 million barrels in 2023—almost five times the number in 2021.
Let’s remember that earlier a complete ban on the import of Russian oil began in Bulgaria.
At the same time, India resumed buying Russian Sokol oil after a two-month hiatus.
