In February, the population of Ukraine sold cash and non-cash money to commercial banks in the amount of $1.394 billion (equivalent) and bought $2.219 billion. Net foreign currency purchases totaled $824.5 billion. This was confirmed by data from the National Bank on Monday, March 4.
Purchase volume decreased by 25.3% compared to January. Then the Ukrainians bought a record amount of money for 11 years – $1.103 billion.
As you know, foreign currency remains the main means of saving for Ukrainians. Earlier, the National Bank reported an increase in the amount of cash currency outside banks by $11.8 billion in 2023 – up to $120 billion. This volume includes cash money from both households and businesses.
It was also reported that in February the National Bank reduced its net sales of foreign currency by 40% compared to January.
