European officials will take the necessary steps to completely get rid of Russian gas.
The European Commission does not plan to participate in any contacts with Russia to continue the transit of Russian gas to European countries through the Ukrainian gas transport system. European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson said this, Ukrinform reported on Monday, March 4.

“I have been very clear about this and I have conveyed this message to our partners in Ukraine that the European Commission will not join the negotiations with Russia, as it did five years ago when the trilateral gas transit agreement was agreed. On the contrary, according to our RePowerUE Plan, we must eliminate Russian gas no later than 2027,” he said before the start of the EU Energy Ministerial Council meeting.
According to Simson, the European Commission is working intensively to provide countries with alternative supply routes and alternative suppliers, and at the same time to support Ukraine to be better integrated into the EU energy market.
Earlier, the media reported that the EU would not extend the agreement with Russia on gas transit through Ukraine. The document expires at the end of 2024.
It was also reported that Ukraine’s gas storage facilities and gas transmission systems will undergo a reliability test in the face of a possible stoppage of gas transit from Russia.
